Muscat Daily Staff Writer -
This year’s Muscat Daily Listen Up contest, is only getting more interesting.
On Wednesday, it was a delight to see how eloquent the students of Sri Lankan School Muscat could get on their opinions.
From the junior category, Viduni Piyasiri won a
spot in the finals. “There are many factors that make me happy, but my
parents are the foundation of my happiness,” she said in the prepared
speech, What Makes Me Happy.
In her unprepared speech too - My Dream Home -
she was all praise for her parents. “I want to be like my parents who
have a dream home. I dream of having a home with nice bedrooms with book
shelves to enhance my reading habits.”
Most middle category contestants chose Manners
Matter as the topic for their prepared speech. “Manners speak louder
about you and they differentiate between man and animals. Childhood is
the best time to inculcate manners,” Chaga Bihari Mahingoda, winner of
the category said.
Going into the unprepared segment, she spoke
on how Healthy Body Leads to Healthy Mind. “If you are not healthy
body-wise, your mind gets sick because of the pressure that the sick
body puts on the mind.”
Osama Ashraf won from the senior category. He
spoke on Can We Really Tell Our Teachers What’s On Our Minds? in the
prepared segment. “I don’t think we should share each and every thing
with our teachers because they are so special and the respect we have
for them prevents us from doing so,” he said.
In the impromptu speech on Should Your Parents
Control You or You Control Yourself?, he said, “Everyone should be in
charge of his or her destiny. Parents play a vital role in shaping us,
but we should not wait for them to do it forever. We should take control
of ourselves.”
